Stopped in at Maumee Bay Brewing for a late dinner after a trip to the Toledo Zoo Lights Before Christmas.
We only had to wait for a table to be cleaned before being seated in the upstairs portion of the restaurant. There is also a full far in this area, and this room also houses the beer vats, so there was a lot to look at. Several tvs around the room playing various channels - a little something for everyone.
We started off by ordering a flight - 6 choices for $8.25. This price was lower than we normally pay for a choice of 4 at one of our go-tos in Sylvania. MBBC had a very decent selection to choose from, and a couple of my choices were standouts, in my opinion.
Next were the food choices - we both ordered salads since it was later in the evening. Our server was very helpful in making suggestions for both our food and flight.
The only knock for our visit at Maumee Bay Brewing Co. was the portion size of the salmon I added to my salad. It was maybe an ounce or 2, and it cost me $7. Needless to say, that was a disappointment. I didn't say anything because of it being so late in the evening.
Everything else besides the tiny sample of salmon on my salad was above board. We will visit Maumee Bay Brewing more often.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 29, 2022Previous reviewHave heard many good things about Maumee Bay Brewing and this was my first visit. Parking is a bit cramped and wasn't expecting what was experienced.
We were seated on one of the 4 available rooms - the Roosevelt. This room was not large for a bar / eating area by any mean but felt very welcoming and in my opinion, had a lot of charm.
I ordered a flight to get a taste of variety and I usually go for darker, bolder varieties of craft beer likes porters and stouts. When I read the flight had 6, I was skeptical as most places do not have too many standouts for my liking. I was not disappointed in the least. My fave taster of the flight was the burbon barrel aged imperial stout. All that I was looking for and then some.
Ordered the brick oven pretzel and our waitress said it was big, well, that was a modest understatement as the pretzel was over the edges of the plate it was served on! The warm pretzel was served with dijon mustard, cinnamon butter, and beer cheese. Took more than half home as we wanted to have room for dinner.
Long story short, both of our meals tasted very good (same for our dessert), the service was good and the environment was better than anticipated.
All-in-all, Maumee Bay Brewing was two thumbs up. Well done! - Apr 28, 2024Updated review2 check-ins
It's gotten to the point where we'll take a year off in between visits, come back and immediately remind ourselves why we took the previous year off. Food is completely miss over hit, and while the atmosphere is as killer as ever, it's just not worth the frustration of poorly executed food.
Yes, the chicken sandwich is still one of the best in the city, but it's going to take a complete overhaul of the menu and kitchen before it will ever come back into our regular rotation.
So dang disappointing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 20, 2013Previous reviewThe buffalo chicken sandwich is hands down the best chicken sandwich in toledo. I had it again tonight, enjoying some beers in their basement MUTZ bar.
Seriously... best chicken sandwich in Toledo.Mar 10, 2013Previous reviewWe had a friend in from Portland, and he asked us if we had any breweries in town. It says a lot about our beer culture in Toledo that I actually had to think about it for a moment before Maumee Bay popped into my head. I've been there a million times, but due to it's location it's really off my radar.
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but our friend really enjoyed his Buckeye lager. He also really enjoyed all of the Toledo / Beer inspired memorabilia in the waiting room.
For dinner we really carbed out. The GIANT pretzel appetizer which was satisfying, salty and had a nice variety of dipping sauce.
My fried perch was delicious. I asked for double veg and no fries, but thankfully they mixed up the order and I got the fries. They were great. Salty. Yummy.
The deep fried buffalo chicken sandwich was perfect. I personally think this sandwich is one of the best sandwiches in the city. I can't imagine anyone not loving it. It's full of texture, flavor and it's huge.
The service was a little goofy, but everyone in the restaurant seemed to be having a good time. The atmosphere is top notch and a great place to bring out of town fans, and your beer drinking buddies.
High quality bar food with high quality atmosphere. It's a win win for Toledo. - Annie S.Toledo, OH0243Jan 16, 2024
Really disappointed in our meal Both me and my son ordered Ruebens and onion rings along with a $17 pretzel with cheese. As soon as I touched one of the onion rings I could tell I would not like them. For one thing, the onion rings were soft, too soft and the breading had a weird taste, sent those back. The ruebens were just so-so. When asked to get some extra cheese to take home with our left over petzel, was advised instead of removing the onion rings from our bill, the waitress said she was giving us the cup of cheese for the pretzel instead of taking off the onion rings. Told her to keep the cheese and take the onion rings off the bill.
Like I always say, I like to try new places and if I don't like the food, I just wont go back..Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 6, 2024
I love stouts and Total Eclipse from Maumee Bay Brewing was a great one! With the solar eclipse, several breweries are making a marketing effort to capitalize on it, which is fun. I'm a sucker for a good theme, so I had to check this one out. I must say Maumee Bay has hit a home run with this selection!

This review should be zero stars. The beer is terrible. Tastes worse than most first time home brewers and unfortunately the food is worse. The wait staff is also not very good at their job. They are super friendly and nice but very slow and not very attentive. Came in on a Sunday and it was not busy only four other tables of people.
This food is terrible. The margarita pizza is not edible. It's canned tomato sauce with no spices on crappy crust with a couple halves of cherry tomatoes and a few slices of dried up basil. The kids grilled cheese is toast with a slice cheese in the middle.
Just stay away and save yourself the time and money. Worst restaurant meal I've had in years.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David B.MI, MI011Mar 24, 2024

Two words - pickle pizza. Must get this. I also got a salad and it was yummy. Our server was nice even when we spilled water. The ambiance is fun because you're in a brewery (the downstairs part). It was yummy, glad we went while visiting Ohio!

We decided to go downtown and try Maumee Bay Brewing. We arrived at 2:40 on a Saturday afternoon and were told we would have a 30-40 minute wait by a completely disinterested host. We decided to have a drink at the downstairs bar. Scotty was a great bartender but was completely overwhelmed by the 20 people in the bar he was trying to handle by himself. After a 60 minute wait we received a table in the bar downstairs......our server Grace was fantastic. The food was totally mediocre. As an appetizer we ordered Elote dip. We order Elote dip at a lot of places. This is the first time I've ever had it cold. It was more like a cheese spread. OK, just wasn't what we expected. Reuben was decent. Mac/Cheese, not so much.
In summery, we both agreed we won't be going back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
